AREAS OF INTEREST

Maritime and naval history of Chile. History of naval technology. Political history and its relation to the Chilean Armed Forces.

BACKGROUND

Researcher at the Centre for Strategic Studies of the Chilean Navy (since 2003). PhD candidate work at the Centre for Maritime Historical Studies at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom (2007-2010).  Head of the Chilean Navy’s Office of Naval History (1990-2003).  Master´s degree work at the Institute of History of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (1994-1995). Private sector work (1988-1990). Naval engineer in the Chilean Navy, reaching the rank of Captain (1966-1987).

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Historical and archival research (Chilean Naval Archives, National Archives, UK, National Maritime Museum, UK, National Archives, Washington, DC). Review of texts before publishing. Book writing (prior research and drafting). Advising on museography and audio-visual works.
