The Chilean Navy, a history of two centuries. Volume I

Santiago, RIL Editores, 2017.

“Why another naval history of Chile, if we had those of Vice-Admiral Luis Uribe Orrego of the nineteenth century, of Carlos López Urrutia, originally published in 1969, and of Captain Rodrigo Fuenzalida Bade, published on the occasion of the Navy’s sesquicentennial?

Because half a century has gone by since the publication of the most recent of the aforementioned books, and during this period important events have taken place.

Because new sources have been found that have led to revisions of the view we had about some events.

Because, unlike those previous books, the author decided to add the contribution of the native peoples and of the colonial period in the formation of the Chilean Navy.

Because it was considered necessary to place greater emphasis on the political context as well as in the political and strategic management of 19th-century war conflicts.”
